Help celebrate Earth Day!

With Mr. Greg, everyday is EARTH DAY!

One of our favorite Mr. Greg lessons is how we can be superheroes and help clean up our planet. Then we put our words into action by taking materials from home and creating our own recycled instruments!

I bet there are a few things each of us can do in our homes to create less waste, and I know that kids LOVE to help out. Let your kids get excited by watching Mr. Greg’s Saving the Earth video! Here are some great ideas for what you can do to prepare for Earth Day on April 22:

– Run an errand by foot or on bikes and leave the car behind
– Help pick up trash in your neighborhood
– Recycle paper and other goods from home using your community resources
– Turn off your water (even while brushing your teeth!) and lights when you’re not using them
– Make your own recycled instruments with your kids! For ideas watch Recycled bongo fun!

The songs “Saving the Earth” and “Don’t throw it Away” from the Mr. Greg “Lots of Fun!” CD are great reminders for our families that we can be involved in keeping our planet clean and green.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is not just a day, but an attitude.

Mr. Greg and all the Instructors are so thankful that we get to share music everyday with the wonderful kids in our area and across the world!

Mr. Greg had the wonderful opportunity to meet the kids at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and was astounded at their positive attitudes. They were thankful for their families, their doctors, and just the little everyday things that sometimes we forget about! Mr. Greg wrote the song Celebrate Your Courage that’s on the “Lots of Fun!” CD for all those brave children who undergo treatment for cancer and blood disorders.

This month is a wonderful time to be thankful for those who are finding a cure for cancer, and all the brave children who go through any kind of difficulty.

Ask your child what are some things they are thankful for and how they can show gratitude even when things get tough?

Listen to the song “Celebrate Your Courage” on Track 17 and share it with your children.

Wishing you and yours a Happy, Healthy, & Safe Thanksgiving.

What ARE the benefits of music?

Musical training is a more potent instrument than any other, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul.”

– Plato, The Republic

We’ve all heard that music is beneficial to our learning, but have you ever sat down and learned WHY?  Music uses multiple parts of the brain, so our brain is doing a super workout every time we are fully engaged in music.  And thankfully the effects are more long-term than the gym membership we all got in January and may or may not still be using.  Here are some fundamental aspects of how music encourages learning:

-Language development: we learn to better recognize speech patterns since they are often parallel to those of musical patterns.  We also learn to express ourselves and communicate using another outlet.

-Physical coordination: learning to tap out rhythms, play an instrument, or dance to the beat incorporate large and small muscle groups.

-Academic: music helps us think creatively in terms of patterns, communication, and problem solving

-Social: we learn to work with others as well as by ourselves as we perform and play
